Italy, France and Spain protesting the cost of living, the state of public services and the failure of governments to invest in education and infrastructure. You won't see Britain doing this, not because the conditions are any better, but the political apathy of brits is without comparison.

I kinda figured that might be your reasons for migrating to BSD. I may end up going that route also, for the same reasons. The holdback is I only *just* developed a moderate level of competency with Linux/Debian and I’m reticent to have to re-learn a bunch of stuff.
LittleFedi is pretty impressive. Very feature-rich and polished. If you want to test drive an account let me know and I’ll shoot you an invite.
People get their shorts in a wad, but the Fediverse has a *freeloading problem* that needs to be addressed.
Everyone has a responsibility to support the community.
It's ridiculous to claim many or most users can't, that somehow everyone here is an impoverished edge case.
Requiring a $2 monthly minimum for individuals / $4 for businesses & organizations is absolutely reasonable.
Everyone has a responsibility for the common good, or Fediverse is not sustainable.

Something I've noticed while on book tour for the past couple of weeks is that Mastodon is a really good way to let people know about bookstore events. So many people I've met on the road have told me that they found out about my book tour from me or other folks on the fedi. I think it's partly because so many book-loving people are on Mastodon. But also if you compare Mastodon to places like Bluesky or Insta, the community here has a higher percentage of actual humans vs. bots or operatives.

I've had a huge uptick of bots DDOSing my website. I had a free guide for self-publishing...I had to disable it because the bots were exceeding my download limits. There's a growing tax AI corps impose on everyone w/their *constant* theft &enshittification. They will break everything if not stopped.
